Her parents love her fiercely. But Maizi is entering a world they cannot entirely see: a world of curiosity and awakening, of changing relationships, and of the new power her youthful beauty seems to possess.
Told in Maizi’s startling and uncompromising voice, About Your Daughter follows a pre-teen girl beginning to understand desire, attraction and the complicated ways in which other people see her. As the boundaries between innocence and experience become increasingly uncertain, Maizi observes the adults around her with an honesty that can be funny, disarming and deeply unsettling.
Provocative without offering easy answers, About Your Daughter is a bold work of contemporary literary fiction about a young girl discovering a world — and herself — before those closest to her are quite ready for either.
